Milk productivity and milk quality of Alpine and Alpine-Nuba cross goats

Abstract

The milk yield over 180 days of lactation and the main components of milk (fat, protein) were compared, and the yield of milk fat and milk protein for the study period was calculated. It was found that Alpine goats were characterized by higher milk yield compared to Alpo-Nubian crossbreeds (663.36 and 543.21 kg, respectively), while Alpo-Nubian crossbreeds had a higher fat (3.97%) and protein (3.47%) content in comparison with Alpine goats (2.98% and 2.76%, respectively). In terms of milk fat and protein yield, the Alpo-Nubian crossbreeds retained their advantage (21.59 and 18.84 kg) compared to the Alpine breed (19.79 and 18.33 kg). The obtained results confirm the importance of considering both milk volume and component composition when breeding and choosing a farm’s technological specialization (whole milk or dairy product production).
